Dr. Julie Mayer Hunt Named ICA's 2014 Chiropractor of the Year

Dr. Julie Mayer Hunt was recently honored by the International Chiropractors Association (ICA) as the 2014 Chiropractor of the Year.  Dr. Hunt’s award was announced at the ICA's Annual Meeting held on the Cleveland College campus in Overland Park, Kansas.  The presentation was made by International Chiropractors Association President Dr. Michael S. McLean at the ICA Awards Banquet during the ICA Round-Up Conference that weekend.  “We are deeply grateful to this exceptional individual who has distinguished herself through such extraordinary levels of service to the ICA and the chiropractic profession,” said Dr. McLean as he presented the award to Dr. Hunt.  The Chiropractor of the Year award is ICA's highest honor, created by the ICA’s Founder and President Dr. B.J. Palmer.

On receiving this prestigious award Dr. Hunt described her gratitude to be able to help people improve their lives on a daily basis through her work. Her father, Dr. David Mayer, established his practice in Clearwater, Florida in 1958 and her observing the positive impact he brought to so many lives led Dr. Hunt to her chosen career.  Dr. Hunt also shared her feeling honored to affect even more lives by making a positive impact on chiropractic care throughout the entire State of Florida, having been appointed by Governor Rick Scott to serve on the State Board of Chiropractic Examiners from September 2013 through October 2016.

In addition to her professional practice and her service on the Florida state board, Dr. Hunt is active in the profession as an author and educator.  She has written articles including multiple features published in the Journal of Clinical Chiropractic Pediatrics, and teaches on upper cervical chiropractic and upper cervical pediatrics to groups throughout North America, including the Florida Chiropractic Society, Society of Chiropractic Orthospinology, and the ICA Council on Upper Cervical Care, also serving as one of the developers of the curriculum for the Diplomate in Chiropractic Upper Cervical Procedures (DCUCP).

A 1981 graduate of Life University, Dr. Hunt received her Diplomate in Clinical Chiropractic Pediatrics (DICCP) from the ICA Council on Chiropractic Pediatrics with Palmer College in 2000.  Dr. Hunt has also been inducted as a Distinguished Fellow of the ICA in 2009, and recognized with the BJ Palmer Award from the Upper Cervical Health Centers in 2013, the President’s Award from the International Chiropractors Association in 2013, and Chiropractor of the Year by the Society of Chiropractic Orthospinology in 2012.
