DIPLOMATE IN CHIROPRACTIC PHILOSOPHICAL STANDARDS (DPhCS)

The Council has a postgraduate program in chiropractic philosophy leading to a Diplomate in Chiropractic Philosophical Standards.(DPhCS). This is a 300+ hours of both onsite and online learning. The program is currently offered through Sherman College of Chiropractic (Year I) and in Chicago through the Center for Chiropractic Progress.

The subject areas covered in the syllabus include all aspects of chiropractic philosophy including its science and art. It is the philosophy of chiropractic that defines chiropractic’s role in health care and is the basis for providing a Chiropractic mentality — the recognition of order in health and dis-ease. The intricacies of chiropractic philosophy are covered in great detail, because it is chiropractic’s unique philosophy that doctors of chiropractic to see the individuality of each patient and apply the care most appropriate for them..

The first year is a complete program unto itself but the additional two years are required before the candidate can sit for the DPhCS examination.

Year I culminates with the writing of a thesis on an approved subject in Chiropractic philosophy that is chosen by the student. The students have to defend their thesis in a “Grand Rounds” session before their peers. This session is in an open forum format where the students are asked questions concerning their position(s) as defined in their thesisiby a mentor assigned to review their paper..

At the end of year 2 students are required to write another thesis and providing they have completed all the required hours/modules may sit for the DPhCS examination conducted by the ICA Council on Chiropractic Philosophy.

Renewal of DPhCS status: Holders of the DPhCS credential are required to complete 24 hours of Council approved continuing education in chiropractic philosophy every three years in order to maintain their Diplomate status.
