The 128th Anniversary of the Founder’s Day of Chiropractic – Launching ICA’s Television Campaign

By International Chiropractors Association

September 18, 2023 (Falls Church, VA) – The International Chiropractors Association (ICA) is pleased to celebrate the 128th anniversary of the founding of chiropractic as a profession.

On September 18, 1895, D.D. Palmer delivered the first chiropractic adjustment to Mr. Harvey Lillard, a janitor in an office building in Davenport, Iowa who had lost his hearing 17 years earlier. Upon adjusting the misaligned spine, Mr. Lillard’s hearing was immediately restored. Since then, chiropractic has been established as a separate and distinct healthcare profession with its own science, philosophy, and art.

This year’s Founders Day celebration is particularly special for the ICA as we are also launching a public media campaign to share the message of chiropractic. Our first piece of content is a segment with Viewpoint with Dennis Quaid, a series that will begin airing tonight on public television stations across the country. You can view this segment on the Viewpoint page at www.viewpointproject.com/features-international-chiropractors-association.

We greatly appreciate those who contributed to the Viewpoint segment, including:

  • Dr. Selina Sigafoose Jackson, ICA President
  • Dr. Kevin Jackson, ICA Member
  • Dr. Charmaine Herman, ICA Board of Directors and Life University faculty
  • Dr. Kristen Welsh, US Air Force Veteran and ICA Member
  • Dr. Rob Scott, Life University President

Additionally, a 30-second commercial will air beginning September 28th. We will post the viewing information on our various platforms and at https://www.chiropractic.org/viewpoint.

The chiropractic profession has come a long way in 128 years – licensure in all US states and territories, a growing body of scientific evidence that has shown the importance of regular chiropractic care, recognition of the key role chiropractic can play in opioid avoidance, and acknowledgement of the cost-savings opportunity when chiropractic is prioritized in situations like Worker’s Compensation. There are also a growing number of colleges worldwide, and the ICA and its colleagues are working to increase global opportunities.

About the ICA: The ICA is the oldest and leading chiropractic organization working nationally and internationally promoting and protecting the chiropractic profession as a separate and distinct healthcare profession with its own science, art, and philosophy. We are a premier provider of postgraduate continuing education, including diplomate programs in upper cervical care, pediatrics, and philosophy. We believe every individual should have the freedom to select chiropractic care and have credentialed chiropractors who understand how to detect and correct vertebral subluxations with the chiropractic adjustment.
